Image License and Attribution Guide

If  you create a tour with images that are not owned by yourself, you are required to license and attribute them properly.  Images that are not appropriately credited or licensed are subject to removal, but licensing and attributing images isn't hard to do.   In many cases you simply have to credit the author and display the license agreement.

Armchair Vacations has made this process as simple as possible.  All you need to do is fill out the following additonal text fields when uploading an image: Licensing Type, Image Author, Image Author URL and Image Origin URL.  If you found the image on the Internet, it will likely have some sort of licensing information printed along with it.   The following guideline will help you determine how the additional text fields should be handled.

The Licensing Type simply describes how that image is been redistributed over the Internet.  Simply select the appropiate type from the chart below.

The Image Author is also known as the Current Copyright holder.  If it's an individual person, it's mostly the person that created the image.

The Image Author URL is a link to the Website that represents the Author.  It's usually a website that promotes the author and/or displays his or her work.

The Image Origin URL is a link to the placeon the Internet where the image was originally found.

URL's usually begin with "http.." and are simply copied from the top line of your browser.

Copyright - Common Usage
The image is copyrighted and does not fall into any of the Non-free Content Categories. However, the image is commonly found on numerous pages of the Internet, and it's usage is based on the following:

  1. This image does not limit the copyright holder's ability to profit from the original source, nor will it dilute the importance or recognition of the logo in connection with its organization.
  2. This image enhances the article in which it's displayed, as it provides an immediate relevance to the reader more capably than the textual description alone.

These icons and guildlines have been adapted from Wikipedia.org , which has gone to great lengths to protect the rights of digital media and their owners.  You will often find the icons on the same page as the image and should give you a clue on how to properly complete the upload form.  Wikipedia is an excellent source of reusable images, and Armchair Vacations encourages your support for Wikipedia.
